Covid-19hour Isolation Cycle
Click for Go Fund Me Link:
On Saturday 11th of April a group us will be attempting to see how far we can cycle in 19 hours on our indoor bike trainers. Hard core isolation style!

Why?
Short Answer: We're stuck indoors and it seems like the kind of crazy adventure a few of us enjoy but there's more to it than that...

There are so many people suffering as a result of this pandemic and so many people we wish we could help. This cycle is the opportunity for some of us to give back in one of our favourite ways...doing a bonkers sporting challenge. Any funds we raise will be distributed as follows:

-
50% of funds raised to Beyond Blue (mental health charity doing great work for people suffering through the pandemic,
-
25 % of funds raised to go to buying Nepean Hospital ICU staff Christmas lunch when this is all over (if this amount goes above 2000 AUD then other hospital ICUs will be provided the same),
-
25% of funds given directly to those members of staff stood down at Fly Pelican to support them through this difficult time (up to a maximum of 750AUD per staff member).

Here's why we have chosen these causes to support:
-
Beyond Blue - Well you're currently on a websote regarding mental health and this is something I and many others arer passionate about reducing the stigma of and supporting others in. Many people are lonely and struggling at this time. Beyond Blue are doing great work to provide tools and support to help anyone in need,
-
Christmas Lunch for ICU Staff - This is two-fold. Firstly one of the members of our crazy indoor cycling team is an ICU Docotr at Nepean Hospital and we wanted to do something to support his team. Secondly we listened to this interview with a UK ICU doctor last week that was widely shared on social media and he said, "rather than people saying thank you just buy staff Chrismas Dinner when this is all over." So here we are aiming to do just that, The more we get the more hospital staff we can feed!
-
Fly Pelican Staff - Ollie is the Safety Manager for a small airline and last week we had to stand down 80% of our staff (approx 25 people) - many of them have young families and it has been heartbreaking to see what this is doing to them as well as the rest of the world. So we wanted to do something to try and see them through this tough period.

Please support us but we understand there are many people in a similar situation so if you are struggling financially as a result of this crisis then do not give anything other than your love and support :) #covid19hourcycle

The ride will take place using an indoor bike trainer (a unit you can fix your real bike to) - I'm using a Wahoo Kickr. This can then connect remotely to a great program called Zwift where you can ride in a virtual world with others from all over the world - if you fancy joining in then get involved! Full plan to follow soon.
